01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Just a short stroll from Nijo Castle in Nakagyo Ward's Taruyacho, WHATSOPP. welcomes diners with morning light and wholesome toast and breakfast spreads. Set inside a serene, white-toned traditional machiya townhouse, the cafe opens toward an atmospheric interior garden anchored by a striking glass dome.

At the center of the morning menu is the signature breakfast plate, offering a satisfying medley of textures. Fragrant, freshly toasted bread blended with rye, oats, sesame, and flaxseed oil serves as the base for avocado, creamy feta cheese, walnuts, and sun-dried tomatoes. Accompanied by a fried egg, grated carrot salad, and greens tossed in a soy milk dressing, it provides a well-balanced spread. For a plant-based option, the vegan breakfast plate pairs organic whole-grain rye bread with smooth hummus and a vibrant quinoa and beetroot salad.

For a lighter meal, open-faced sandwiches and toasts are a reliable choice. The romesco open sandwich layers cheddar cheese and fresh sliced tomatoes over a rich house-made sauce of roasted red peppers, almonds, sun-dried tomatoes, and olive oil, balancing deep roasted notes with a bright tang. Guests can further customize their morning spread with optional add-ons like eggs, bacon, or extra avocado.

To accompany a meal, the drink menu ranges from carefully brewed drip coffee, espresso, and velvety cafe lattes to spiced organic chai and organic matcha lattes. Sweet and light bites are also available, including scones served with mascarpone cream and organic raspberry jam, as well as soy yogurt granola bowls enriched with pesticide-free spirulina, making it easy to settle in at any pace.
